Risk factors of Deafness

Age: Progressive loss of ability to hear high frequencies with increasing age.

Heredity: Your genetic makeup may make you more prone to ear damage.

Occupational noises: Workplaces where loud noise is a regular part of the working environment, such as farming, construction or factory work, can lead to damage inside your ear.

Medications: Certain antibiotics and chemotherapeutic drugs, high doses of aspirin, antimalarial drugs or diuretics can damage the inner ear.

Diseases: Meningitis, mumps, cytomegalovirus and chicken pox increase the chances of ear damage.
