Glossary of Terms
  • Neurological: Dealing with the nervous system and disorders affecting it.
  • Endocrine: Relating to glands which secrete hormones or other chemicals directly into the blood.
  • Body dysmorphic disorder: A psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive preoccupation with imagined defects in physical appearance.
  • Depersonalization: It is a state in which one's thoughts and feelings seem unreal or not to belong to oneself.
  • Drug withdrawal: Drug withdrawal is the group of symptoms that occur upon the abrupt discontinuation or decrease in intake of addictive drugs.
  • Food additives: These are substances added to food to enhance its flavour or appearance or to preserve it.
  • Antidepressants: Drugs used in treatment of Depression.
  • Sedatives: Drugs which causes sleep or drowsiness.
  • Cognitive: Involves conscious mental activities.
  • Hyperthyroidism: Overactivity of the thyroid gland, resulting in a rapid heartbeat and an increased rate of metabolism.
  • Hypothyroidism: Underactivity of the thyroid gland, affecting the metabolic processes of the body resulting in weight gain, tiredness, inability to tolerate cold,pain and joint stiffness etc.
  • Trichotillomania: Trichotillomania is defined as a compulsive desire to pull out one's hair. A self induced activity.
