Diagnosis and Tests

Uterine Fibroids aren't very easy to diagnose clinically. Only in case of very large fibroids, they can actually be felt on the abdomen by palpation. Sometimes, the shape of uterus is found to be abnormal and can be known by an internal examination of the uterus and vagina.

Diagnostic tests for Fibroids are:

  • Ultrasonography (USG): USG is the most common and certain way to diagnose uterine fibroids.
  • MRI: MRI is done to determine the exact size, location and type of the lesions.
  • Hysteroscopy, Hysterosalpingography and Hysterosonography are other tests which may be useful for better picture of the uterus and the fallopian tubes.
  • Biopsy: A biopsy of the inner lining of the uterus is taken to rule out cancer.
