Glossary of Terms
  • Infectious disease: Any disease that is caused by the entrance, development and reproduction of harmful microorganisms in the body.
  • Herpes labialis: Herpes infection of the mouth (lips) and surrounding regions.
  • Herpetic whitlow: Herpes infection of the fingers or toes.
  • Post herpetic neuralgia: Mild to severe nerve pain caused by herpes infection along the course of the affected nerve. The pain may persist even after resolution of the skin infection.
  • Seropositive: Having a positive reaction to a test on the blood serum for a specific disease.
  • Erythema: Reddening of the part.
  • Erythematous: Characterised by erythema.
  • Vectors: An agent that carries and transmits and infectious pathogen into another living organism.
  • Holistic: Consideration of the person as a whole, body, mind, emotions, spirit, in quest for optimal health.
  • Cerebrospinal fluid: It is a clear fluid that surrounds the spinal cord and brain and acts as a shock absorber.
  • Dysuria: Difficulty in passing urine.
