Diagnosis and Tests

Diagnosis of Tonsillitis is based on physical examination of the throat and the overall presentation of the patient.

Tonsils are found to be red and swollen, with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. Sometimes, white patches / spots may also be seen denoting presence of pus.

A throat culture (throat swab) determines the infective agent, though usually examination is enough to determine the disease.
