Risk Factors

Parental Age: Few research studies have found a link between ASD and children born to older parents (40 years and above). However, a definite connection has not, as yet, been established.

Gender of Child: Boys are more likely (1 in 42) to develop ASD than girls (1 in 189).

Premature birth: Preterm births occurring especially before 26 weeks of gestation have witnessed a higher incidence of ASD.
