• Anal Fissure Treatment

Treatment

Conservative measures : Sitz baths (soaking in a tub of warm water) are advised after bowel movements, to relax the spasm, to increase the flow of blood to the anus.

There is no complete cure in conventional medicine in treatment for Anal fissure. You may get relief. But it is not long lasting. Conventional medications cannot avoid the recurrence of the fissure.

The doctor may prescribe you nitroglycerin ointment for local application that helps to relax the sphincter muscle and promotes healing. But this is as long as you apply it.

Botulin toxin type A (Botox) injection is given to paralyze the anal sphincter muscle. However it is not recommended frequently.

  • Surgical procedures are generally recommended in treatment for anal fissure for those who have tried medical therapy for at least one to three months and have not healed.
  • The major risk following the surgery is anal incontinence.
