Diagnosis and Tests
  • Lung Function Tests: These tests are very essential to diagnose COPD. Spirometry is the most useful method to perform lung function tests. It is a very simple procedure in which a patient has to blow through a spirometer which helps find out the amount of air the lungs can hold and the speed with which you can blow the air out of the lungs.
  • Arterial Blood Gas Analysis: This test gauges the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood and how well the lungs are managing the exchange between the two gases.
  • Chest X-Ray: X-ray of the chest shows changes of Bronchitis and Emphysema.
  • CT-Scan: CT-Scan of chest is done to find out the extent of Emphysema or to rule out other more serious respiratory conditions like Lung Cancer and Tuberculosis.
